Day 4: We’re doing Fjotsdalshreppur and Laki today. Fjotsdalshreppur is basically a canyon with a beautiful waterfall and river at the bottom. I went right up to the cliff side and that was so cool. Laki was even cooler in a way. You have to drive on an F-Road and there's about 4 river crossings with no bridges. I was laughing at every crossing cause it was so funny to see the family screaming saying the car is going to flood! I mean the facial expressions were priceless. The car didn't anyway flood but the rivers were getting bigger cause of rain. Laki is a field of lava (dried lava unfortunately) and at the end of the road (took us about 1 hour) there's these gorgeous mountains you hike to get these beautiful views of the valley and lava fields. Going down the mountain while its raining is a different story… it was slippery and steep and my family and I were basically jogging down the mountain lmao to get back to the car as fast as possible. We started heading back to the house cause it was getting to be around 7 and we knew the property owners would not like waking up to trespassers lol. I eat kiwi’s for breakfast cause they are the best fruits ever, then we go to a supermarket and totally raid the place (we didn't steal anything lol). Now we’re heading for Pingvellir National Park, Sudurland, the Golden Circle, Rangarping Eystra, and Vik. The Pingvellir is where the 2 continental plates are drifting apart which fascinates me cause I did a huge report about that in Iceland a few years back. Sudurland was a famous geyser that spits water out every 5 minutes. The Golden Circle was beautiful! It’s so much cooler than Niagara falls tbh (even though I’ve never been lmao). Now Eystra is really cool when its sunny cause there’s a rainbow, but the rain just loves to follow me around. I’m wearing jeans and I go right up to the waterfall and I get instantly soaking wet ugh! Its freezing cold water cause its fresh from a glacier. There’s these two British guys with a bro pro and they jump right into the water and got out of the water so fast lmao. Then once I was back in the car soaking wet and freezing we went to Vik!! Civilization yay!! That’s where I bought waterproof pants and my traditional Icelandic wool pullover at Ice Wear… Iceland is so creative with names jk. The taxi takes me to the Blue Lagoon, and its raining and not at all sunny. I love the sun and I hate rain, I might have came to the wrong country lol. He was telling me that the Blue Lagoon water is basically human waste because of how dirty the water is once it gets filtered from the city, then to the Lagoon. (The city gets the fresh water then it gets moved to the Lagoon, its a cycle of water filtration) That made me really excited, note the sarcasm.
It was really boring cause I was alone but I got a nice free silica mask. After an hour of being bored I get out into the freezing wind and rain and it turns out the package I bought doesn't come with a towel!!! WTF no towel? It doesn't make any sense to me, but I end up paying 1,000 Kronas for 1 towel. After changing in the changing room I find a lounge chair and sleep for well over 5 hours waiting for my family to come to Iceland and pick me up and head for the first night guesthouse. They arrive and I’m legit so happy to get out of there, don't get me wrong its really cool, but after a few hours it gets boring. (Part 1 in a weeklong series of entries about kaleo.fp's trip to Iceland) by UnofficialKaleo I discovered Kaleo on my Sawyer Fredericks Pandora station. This really beautiful, haunting song came on and I looked over to see who it was. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I recognized the name of the band being Hawaiian but not the name of the song -- "Vor í Vaglaskógi" . And that was it. After Googling away a bit, I was pretty much instantaneously hooked. I realized Kaleo had no fan sites. Being on #TeamSawyer, i knew the power of the FANDOM.
i remember when i posted my first few photos on IG though, and a few very vocal haters cussed me out, claiming i wasn't a "real" fan because i didn't have any pictures with the band, claiming i stole pictures, saying i was a fake, spamming my feed, and calling me extraordinarily hateful names. and then they tried deleting their comments and blocking themselves so it couldn't be traced back to them.
those users are actually the real inspiration for this fansite, and i've kept a screenshot of those comments to remind me of what i NEVER want anyone to feel. i never want anyone to feel unwelcome because they liked first what you like now. sorry, kaleo's about to blow up and you won't be the only superfan anymore. so this first post goes out to all the haters, because the fans are just going to keep on coming. take me where the wheels take me! |
