All The Pretty GirlsAll the pretty girls like Samuel
ohh he really doesn’t share Although it’s more than he can handle life is anything but fair, life is anything but fair Just as soon as they turn older he’ll come and sweep them off their feet It’s only making me feel smaller All the hidden love beneath Won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down Won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down Won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down Won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down All alone, alone again No one lends a helping hand I have waited, I have waited Takes it’s toll, one’s foolish pride How long before I see the light I have waited, I have waited for you to lay me down Sail on by, sail on by for now They play naked in the water You know it’s hard, heaven knows I’ve tried But it just keeps getting harder So won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down Won’t you lay me, won’t you lay me down (x3) oh won't you lay me, oh won't you lay me down (x2) oh won't you lay me, say won't you lay me down, won't you lay me down, ohhh I’ll wait, I’ll wait, I’ll wait, I’ll wait for you (x4) For you to lay me Won’t you lay me down |
You’ve gotten a lot of buzz around your song “All the Pretty Girls,” which was featured on NPR’s SXSW 2015 Music Preview playlist. Other than pretty girls, what was your inspiration behind this song? How was it playing SXSW? I wrote the song in a summer house in the country side in Iceland. Those summer nights can be magical where the sun doesn’t go down and it stays bright out all night. Therefore the song is very much inspired by the Icelandic summer and it’s beauty. |

What was it like shooting your video for “All The Pretty Girls”? Where was it shot? What was your idea behind the video? The idea behind the video was to catch the feeling of Icelandic summer. The winters in Iceland get really dark and can be pretty depressing. The summers are the exact opposite, people spend every possible minute outside and go out in the nature and have fun with friends. We didn’t really have any script, but we had locations we wanted to shoot at. A big part of it was shot at David’s family’s summer house in east Iceland. We also went to a secret hot spring to shoot the underwater scenes. It was pretty tough because to get to the hot spring, you have to climb down a 10 meter vertical wall in a middle of a lava field in north Iceland. We’re lucky no one got seriously injured because help would have taken ages to arrive. The video took us three days and nights of shooting and we drove around the whole island doing so. |
What's the story behind "All The Pretty Girls?"
I went to this summer cabin in Iceland a couple of times in the springtime. The vibe of the song is spring or summer. It's a quiet tune. It's the most quiet we've done so far. I guess it's the kind of song you would play at 2am when you're in that sort of a mood in a summer house somewhere. It's relaxed and easygoing. That's everything the song is about. I really like how people connect differently to the lyrics so I don't want to ruin it by telling my story. I love that many of our songs and other artists allow each people to connect in their own ways. I've heard so many different meanings for some of our lyrics. That's the most enjoyable thing about it. People connect personally and have their own meanings. |
