video of course produced by the fabulous Eyk Studio
(below excerpt from WSJ Speakeasy's exclusive video premiere):
The band spent 22 hours one day this past June filming. They powered their gear by two generators on boats nearby, with power lines running underwater. Rain forced strings players to drop out of the shoot, and the iceberg was in motion too, further complicating things.
“It was by far the most challenging video we’ve made thus far,” says the band’s lead singer JJ Julius Son. “I think because of the soft and melodic nature of this song it fit perfectly with the beautiful, serene setting of the glacier lagoon,” he says. Fjallsárlón is an isolated glacial lagoon in the realm of Vatnajökull. Arriving to the lagoon is like stepping into a dreamlike world that offers spectacular sights. Iceland's tallest volcano, the Öræfajökull glacier, looms above the lagoon and reaches down to the water where icebergs break off into the lake and drift serenely around before melting. |

"This was the most challenging live performance we have done thus far. We had two generators on motor boats floating around the iceberg and then laid the power cables into the water leading to the iceberg. Our sound engineer recorded the performance sitting with a laptop on one of the boats. The water was challenging and it started raining so we were lucky to have pulled it off. It was shot during in the summer around 2am when we have 24 hour daylight in Iceland. The project took over 26 hours to capture." - Live from Iceland map |
